Pass CSEC subjects including English Language and a science (Biology preferred). Some colleges admit mature applicants on a portfolio or interview instead.
5 years (Forms 1-5) - 2
Phlebotomy Programme
Complete a certificate or diploma in Phlebotomy Technician - the shortest allied-health programme on offer locally, taking a few months to a year.
4 - 12 months - 3
Supervised Practicum
Complete the supervised practicum: a set number of successful venipunctures and capillary collections on real patients, plus specimen handling and labelling.
1 - 3 months - 4
Start Collecting
Work at a private laboratory, collection centre, blood drive or hospital outpatient department. In public hospital laboratories venipuncture is normally done by Medical Technologists, so most dedicated phlebotomy posts are in the private sector.

Add Certification
Add an international certification (ASCP PBT, AMT RPT or NHA CPT) to strengthen your standing with private laboratories and overseas employers.

Bridge into the Laboratory
Use the experience toward the two-year Medical Laboratory Technician associate degree, or the four-year BSc in Medical Technology at UTech or NCU.
